The International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT) brings together more than two thousand theatre critics with the help of its fifty national sections. Founded in 1956 in Paris, AICT is a non-governmental and non-profit organization.
The purpose of AICT is to bring together theatre critics, in view of promoting international cooperation. Its main objectives are to promote theatre critics as a subject and to contribute to the development of its methodological basis; to protect the professional and ethical interests of theatre critics and to promote the common interests of all its members, as well as to contribute to the recognition and mutual understanding between cultures by encouraging international meetings and exchanges in the field of theatre, in general.
AICT holds a world congress twice a year, seminars for the young critics twice a year, as well as various symposiums.
The Romanian Section of AICT is led by theatre critic Ludmila Patlanjoglu, a PhD university professor.
